Supporting LGBTQ Individuals with Love and Acceptance

As members of the LaSallian community, we are called to embody the virtues of faith, service, and inclusivity. In our collective journey towards promoting a more accepting and compassionate world, it is essential to extend our support to LGBTQ individuals. This blog post aims to explore how we, as individuals guided by the LaSallian virtues, can make a positive impact and foster an environment of love and acceptance for the LGBTQ community.

Embrace the Virtue of Gravity:

The ongoing fight for the LGBTQ identity in public spaces is one of importance and seriousness. People have given their very lives in pursuit of it and their rights as fellow human beings. The gravity of this struggle urges us to approach these fellow members of our communities with deep respect and consideration. Recognizing the seriousness of this matter, we strive to create a space where young LGBTQ individuals feel valued and embraced. By acknowledging the profound significance of acceptance and inclusivity we can build a community where everyone’s unique experiences are celebrated and cherished. Let us embody the virtue of gravity, holding steadfast in our commitment to fostering a more compassionate and understanding world for all.

Practice Acceptance and Understanding:

Acceptance is a cornerstone of the LaSallian philosophy. Seek to understand and appreciate the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities. Educate yourself about LGBTQ issues, terminology, and challenges faced by the community. Challenge any biases or prejudices you may hold, and strive to create an inclusive environment where all individuals feel welcomed and respected.

Stand Up Against Discrimination:

As Lasallians, we are called to champion social justice and equality. Take a stand against discrimination and injustice faced by LGBTQ individuals. Speak out against homophobic or transphobic comments or behaviors when you hear them happen around you. Advocate for policies and initiatives that promote LGBTQ rights and equality. By actively engaging in social change, we can work towards a more just society for all.

Be an Ally and Advocate:

Use your voice and privilege to be an ally and advocate for LGBTQ individuals. Attend LGBTQ events, marches, or pride celebrations to show your support. Educate others about LGBTQ issues and foster conversations that promote understanding and acceptance. Stand up against bullying or harassment targeting LGBTQ individuals and create spaces that are free from prejudice.

Support LGBTQ Organizations:

Support nonprofit organizations that work tirelessly to uplift and empower the LGBTQ community. Below are some resources where you can give to assist LGBTQ individuals in the NYC area:
